Day of Dalí

Today we had a day trip to a medieval city of Besalí and to see the Museum Dalí. We only had an hour to walk around in Besalí which was perfect. Just enough time to do a loop! It was tucked away in the mountains and all of the gorgeous colors were a comfort—just like home. It did finally get cold here today and I was unprepared. Supposedly it gets cold, but we’ll see! Regardless, I found the perfect hat there! (No photo available at this time, I have to keep some surprises!) All too soon we were back across this lovely bridge and off to the Museum Dalí!!

The medieval town of Besali...I felt like I was in a postcard/fairytale!!

A lovely medieval bridge that was quickly constructed around 1100 and definitely not meant to last this long!...or was that the other bridge...whatever, it's gorgeous!!!

I always associated Salvador Dalí with melting clocks. But now I know that he is so much more! He was a passionate man, scared of his own mortality. He loved his wife. Since she was also his muse she appears in most of his paintings. And he was crazy. Even crazier than I had thought…and like most crazy artists, he became obsessed with a few things in his life. His paintings show that. It makes me wonder that if I am obsessed with a couple of ideas now, will all of my work end up being in pursuit of these ideas? Oops…I think I just designed my building…Hmm…

Recognize anyone? From Dali's time in the states.

Moving on…Dalí also liked theater, and appropriately designed his museum in a ruined theatre in his hometown. The result is fantastic! It made me start mentally designing a museum. Here are some of my favorite paintings…

Portrait of Beethoven...painted using a squid as a brush...no joke!

A portrait/criticism of Picasso...I enjoyed it.

Weird drawing becomes fantastic art on the bottle!

I really liked his use of ink and color...two of my favorites!!!

After the museum, a few of us headed over to check out the rest of the town. We made it as far as the rambla (what all of the main streets are called in Spain). Then I had two fantastic finds!!! First, I found the equivalent of my very first camera! It uses a different type of film, and is apparently vintage. But now—some 12 years later—I have it again!! I’m super excited!!! The other find I have been looking for a few years now. And that is some letterpress/old printing press letters.  I could only afford the letters “Teka + I,” but that is good enough for now. It made my day! (And didn’t break the budget). In two weeks I will be visiting Florence and Venice…but most importantly my roommate Valerie!!!! I am stoked! Well, unfortunately school cannot be neglected and have a large paper due soon…so ta ta for now and I hope you enjoyed Dalí as much as I did, even if the photos cannot do him justice.
